Why Not? Embracing Adventure in the Heart of Switzerland

This post may be a little biased because this location is my favorite due to an amazing experience that took place. Can you guess what I did? Let’s find out!

My level of excitement was always high to visit this country because of its beautiful scenery and possibilities for adventure. Once the mountain peaks came into view, I became astonished—it literally looked like a painting. I had to pinch myself, and that was just one of many "pinch me" moments.

Did you catch the next location? Next Up, Switzerland!🇨🇭

Two monumental landmarks of history that is a must see is the Chapel Bridge with its Water Tower and The Lion of Lucerne. Both were a beauty to see with such a unique and longstanding historical significance. A fire took place in 1993 that caught a major part of Chapel Bridge which was later rebuilt in eight months and reopened in 1994. Regardless, the Chapel Bridge along with the Water Tower dates back to the 14th century and is still considered to be Europe’s oldest covered bridge. The Lion of Lucerne also known as The Lion Monument dates back to 1821 which commemorates the Swiss guardsmen that passed during the French Revolution in 1792. It was certainly a pleasure seeing and walking on history. I spoke about the fountains in my Rome post (if you missed it, you can read it here), but the fountains in Switzerland were something else. Why, you ask? Well, the water comes directly from the glaciers 🤯🫠! We drank water from the tap and fountains in Rome, but this is different, top tier. It’s cooler and so much more refreshing—or maybe that was just the magic of knowing where it came from! Along with the freshest water, the river is the most stunning shades of blue. Our Bahamian waters are a sight to behold, but it’s fascinating to see and feel this cool, glacier-fed water in the middle of town.

The views, views, and more views. The scenery in Switzerland is so breathtaking that every time I looked around, I couldn't believe I was actually there. It felt like I was walking through a painting or a perfect postcard. The mountains seemed to stretch for miles, and the town where we stayed felt like a charming village straight out of a Lifetime Christmas movie (minus the snow). The hotel didn’t have air conditioning, but this gave a different appreciation for Mother Nature. Even in the height of summer, the nights were cool enough to leave the doors open, letting in fresh air with no bugs (at least, I didn’t see or feel any mosquitoes 😏). Imagine waking up to that viewpriceless!

The highlight of Switzerland was the impromptu adventure of... drum roll PARAGLIDING!! Before we left home, I did my research and thought it would be an amazing experience, but I never imagined I’d actually do it—and I still can’t believe I did! What made it even more special was sharing the moment with my mom, who usually isn’t the adventurous type. We walked in town to the field where all you saw were persons in the sky or on the field recently landed. I looked at her and asked, “Are we doing this?” When she said yes, I knew we had to go for it.

From the ground, the height didn’t seem too daunting, but once we drove to the drop-off point, the nerves hit me like a ton of bricks! I had come this far, so there was no backing out now. Strapped up, a few photos captured for proof, and latched onto my pilot, we took our run off the cliff and were off. There aren’t enough words to express how incredible that moment and experience were except—you must try it for yourself. The nerves disappeared, replaced by a sense of freedom, just me and the open skies. My instructor even did some tricks in the air that felt like a roller coaster without the tracks, bringing back some of the nerves, but I pushed them aside to fully enjoy the moment. What lasted only 20 minutes of flight felt like so much more, thanks to the sheer joy and bliss in the air.

Life Lesson from Switzerland: Why Not?

One of the pilots had that phrase tattooed in a unique language by his ankle. Life’s too short, so just do it! And if you still second-guess yourself, then ask, why not?
