Midweek Delight: Fish Fry at Smith's Point

Look what day it is! It’s hump day! And guess what that means? It’s time for Fish Fry at Smith’s Point. But why Wednesday? Maybe it’s the middle of the week motivation to get you through to the weekend? Maybe not, but it sure is a nice break from the regular weekly routine.

This particular Wednesday afternoon, I was jonesing for some conch fritters, and I knew just the spot. I drove to Smith’s Point to Tony’s Conch Stand Grill & Bar. Behind the conch stand, they offer conch fritters and dinners. My mind was not on the dinners, though—all I wanted was conch fritters, and conch fritters is what I got! And check out the view that came along with it. It doesn’t get any better than this! 😆

Conch Fritters with Beach View

I thought that would have been my complete Fish Fry experience for the day, but it got even better. My parents decided they wanted a little something as well. We ended up at Outriggers Beach Club, which is located straight ahead once you enter the main entrance of Smith’s Point. On the right side is where food is served, and on the left is a bar and dance floor for you to shake a leg all night. When we arrived, there was a line, so I figured it’s got to be good! For dinners, they offered either fried fish, BBQ chicken, or ribs with peas 'n' rice and one side—we tried one of each. They also served conch fritters, conch salad, and baked goods.

Y’all, let me tell you, it was so worth the wait! I often feel that we as Bahamians take our country and what we offer for granted. To be able to take a short drive to pick up a home-cooked meal, fresh off the grill or out of the fryer, with drinks, a view and music—mudda sick, bey! (Bahamian slang for “that’s crazy/you’re kidding/wow/oh my gosh”).

Well, since today is Wednesday, why don't you head on over to Smith’s Point this evening for a Bahamian treat. Whether it's from Outriggers, Gullywash, Snapper Shoals, or Terry’s Conch Stand Grill & Bar, enjoy a local meal, and when you take that first bite, remember this is why it’s “Better in The Bahamas.” 🇧🇸
