Melodies and Memories: Jazz Night at Lignum Vitae

Do you enjoy the lovely melodies of jazz? Are you not one for crowds? Or are you looking for a date night spot for yourself or with that special someone? Well, I’ve got just the spot for you! I had heard of and seen this charming venue multiple times, but the introvert in me took over until I saw that they were hosting a Jazz Night—‘Jazzy Fridays’ featuring two guest artists that I knew and had to support! This quaint spot is Lignum Vitae Market & Cafe.

What was intended as a solo date night (yes, you must take yourself out), turned into a mother-daughter night which I was grateful for. Once we arrived and entered the space, the aroma of fever grass hit and it smelled so lovely. There was a small bottle of fever grass oil situated in the center of the store that must have been opened before our arrival, but oh, what a lovely scent to walk into.

The Cozy Deck Setup at Lignum Vitae Market & Cafe

Out the back door, the deck was set up with chairs, tables, and a couch for patrons to sit back and relax while watching the hues of the sunset, waiting for the band to begin its opening number. The atmosphere was intimate and welcoming, with soft lights adding to the cozy ambiance. Sadly, the summer nights have begun with the humidity levels higher than the breeze, so a few women held portable fans in an effort to keep cool. A cash bar was present, offering a complimentary drink included in the entry price along with a small bite.

The signature drink for the evening was sorrel, and the appetizers were spinach & artichoke cups and avocado salad with plantain chips. All were very delicious and I must admit, I felt very healthy 😆.

Adding to the ambiance of the evening was the presence of a local wine company, Royale Sarge, founded by a husband and wife duo. It was so amazing to see this in Grand Bahama, and their offerings perfectly complemented the night’s vibe.

The Forces of Nature band kicked the night off with some smooth, composed music of their own that infused jazz with different rhythmic styles such as Junkanoo, which we know and love. They also played for the featured artists who performed, which was really nice to hear a live band each time instead of a recorded mix. The lineup included Javan Hunt, Tony Lowe, Jade Moya, Wannessa Hanna, among others. Including the band, there was a total of nine artists that performed, making for the perfect evening out.

Whether you’re planning a solo date night or a special evening with loved ones, this hidden gem offers a unique experience that’s not to be missed. Interested in experiencing this delightful evening? Keep an eye on their Facebook page for the next ‘Jazzy Fridays’ event!
